Abstract

Fibronectin is a family of adhesive glycoproteins that has been found to promote the organization of the extracellular matrix and adhesive interactions of the cells.
There are several reports on the localization of fibronectin, however these reports reveal a little information about the components of developing rat dental tissues. To provide insights into its possible functions, affinity-purified antibodies
directed
against rat FN were used to demonstrate the histological distribution of this protein in developing dental tissues from 14-day-old rats
@ES The results were as follows ;
@EN 1. In the epithelium of oral mucosa, FN labelling is present predominantly in the granular layer. FN having fibrous appearance are detected in virtually all regions of the lamina propria.
2. Intense fibrous FN labelling is distributed uniformly in periodontal ligament.
3. Predentin showes immunoreaction at a higher level than observes in dentin. Antibodies react strongly with dentinal tubules.
4. Acellular cementum is stained strongly compare with dentin which is stained moderately.
5. FN staining is intense along the surface of newly formed bone matrix. The osteocytes are strongly stained, whereas the osteoblasts are more moderately stained.
6. FN staining is very low level in odontoblasts, ameloblasts enamel.
